On the Eve of Christmas Eve, & again Christmas Eve, a blind raccoon came by the feeding station here.... we marvelled @ how agile it was, & adept @ travelling in search of food.... & I marvelled @ such a Great God & the fortitude of His creatures.
Christmas Eve was beautiful here...very mild with a slight mist of rain.... & the blind raccoon was sleeping inside the feeding box so as not to get too wet, waking up periodically to eat.
Then the winter from hell descended... & the night of the raging wind (2/15, -50 degrees wind chill).
We watched daily for footprints, ... but only the orange bobtail feral, Anthony Pio, came with regularity... he had a shelter under the deck, & we shovelled to make sure he could access food.
But the blind raccoon never returned.
Most of the snow is gone now.... & all the places that harbor hybernating & homeless animals are out from under the deep snow. Anthony Pio bobtail is reunited w/his small domestic mate who was kept housebound but is out now & came in search of him last week.
& last night, during prayers, I was called to the window to see a 'small raccoon' who was returned to the feeding station... & yes! it was the blind raccoon.
Thank You Lord.
UPDATE 1/6/16: Anthony Pio was taken in this Fall by the household of his little black mate!, &, the blind raccoon has a shelter in the neighbors yard & continues to do very well.
