Of cosmic and historic significance
"On September 8, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The feast is also celebrated by Syrian Christians on the same day.
On September 9 the United States Congress reconvenes after its summer recess, preparing to debate and vote on authorising President Barack Obama’s proposal for the USA to take military action against Syria.
Saint Augustine described the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an event of cosmic and historic significance, and an appropriate prelude to the birth of Jesus Christ.
The outcome of the debate by Congress may also prove to be an event of cosmic and historic significance.
The Blessed Mother, ever the intercessor and full of grace, is perpetually generous with her graces – on feast days, especially. So on Sunday, September 8, why not light a birthday candle in honour of Our Lady and pray to the Queen of Peace that Jesus may be born into the heart of the US Congress and its debate on Syria."
in this hour of passions and doubts
when even the good run the risk of being lost…
Unite all the Syrian peoples around your Son
in the love of the Church
and the cultivation of virtue,
in respect for order and fraternal charity.
Queen of Peace, pray for us!
Patroness of our country and Mother of Jesus
that we now only have recourse
to your Immaculate Heart and Divine Mercy.
O Blessed Virgin Mary
through the powerful intercession of your Immaculate Heart,
save Syria, by giving it Jesus,
in whom it will find Truth, Life and Peace. Amen.
